20inches long. I’m sure it’s glass as it’s heavy and clunks together like glass, the clasp button is definitely plastic but I was surprised to see the orange colour peeling off one of the beads. Was that usual? Seems odd, why not just have orange glass beads? Were they sprayed? Any info please? Thank you.

Coated, rather than sprayed. And yes it was a thing.

I suspect it was a cheaper way of producing varied colours. Mass make a plain colour, then coat as needed.

Agree with Ownedbybear. Also about the reason to make it like this
I also have necklaces that look glass and on some beeds the surface layer is peeling.

Seen a lot of Pearl coatings flaking off before but not beads like this. I should be able to fix this one with a bit of matching acrylic paint.

Yes, pearl coating is easily peeled but I mean "normal" glass beads with painted colors on them. It is especially valid for small separation beads, cannot find example now but I have such necklaces. When I have time I will ty to find and show here.

I've had Czech beads that were coated glass.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I used to have a necklace with coated beads that were a dark brown color. The color was flaking off in several places, and the beads underneath looked pearly. I thought they were plastic, now am wondering if they could have been glass? Anyway, the necklace doesn't seem to be here anymore.
