    Hello folks,

    A question if I may......

I have a cut glass sherry decanter that I inherited from my mother. I have had it many years, but never used it, but would now like to. However, after years of being packed away, and with the stopper in, it is looking rather filthy inside, so I would like to clean and use it. So what would be the best way to get it really clean inside please?
The neck of the decanter is silver, though I will have to have a look and see if it is hall marked.
Thank you in advance for all, and any tips.

White vinegar with salt is what I used on my 15 decanters, followed by a couple of denture tabs and leave to soak overnight.
Rinse out with lukewarm water and stand to dry with the stopper out

All mine are from clearances, a few were still boxed, probably retirement or anniversary gifts.

I have a Sterling label or ticket on each one, 4 of them are from Concord.

I filled each one with the name on the tag.

Whisky x5, Rum, Port x2, Sherry, Vodka, Brandy x2, Vermouth, Gin & Maderia

They are all empty now pending my house move.:wacky:

Thank you Davey, I will try that! The silver top is marked M.SK. 830S.

My apologies for the very poor snap shot, it was taken very quickly. The angle makes it seem out of proportion, but it is actually very tall and rather elegant.

Possibly, this may have come from my grandmother, so possibly it is Danish??

Your decanter is stunning! Looks like the top is silver so you should polish it too.

@daveydempsey Do you know if the vinegar would damage the silver? My gut feeling is that it wouldn't but .....

And love your decanter collection. You picked some good ones.

It may do but the silver neck might be over the glass, otherwise alcohol may react with the silver.
If it is silver with no glass then I suggest only fill it upto the line.
