I know virtually nothing about glass but it turns up in mixed lots from time to time.

This little pair of lovebirds are about 12.5cm tall and came in a mixed on a timed auction today.

Can anyone tell me anything about the style and possible period? I have searched glass lovebirds but haven’t found this model. The closest I’ve found colour wise was Sabine but I’m not assuming it is that.

As always thanks for any help

Not an expert by any stretch, but the underside makes me wonder if this a lid to something else?

I think you meant Sabino, not Sabine. ;)

As a possible Lalique, even if it's only the lid, it's got value.

Thanks. I thought I typed Sabino

I’m pretty sure it is Lalique so I will stick it on eBay. Will try to get an authentication first.

I would think there would be folks out there with broken lids needing one, it looks awfully tippy so good chance many are missing lids ...

You have a nice piece there, John. 99.9% of Lalique glass will always be signed (in one way or another) however only the decanter itself would have been signed in this instance. Given its size, it would certainly make a nice little lamp to add to my own collection, and so with this in mind please let me know if you want to sell it. I'd be interested.

It may be worth mentioning on this thread, that many hand-produced vintage decanters and perfume/scent bottles will often have etched/scribed numbers on the underside of the stopper. This number will correspond to with the same number etched into the inside-neck of the bottle, or under its base.

The reasons for these numbers are twofold: Stoppers were produced by a different person (known as the "Stopperer") after the bottle was made, and even with matched-pairs of bottles their stoppers will not be interchangeable. There will be slight variations between them. Numbers were therefore applied so that each stopper fitted the correct bottle before they were retailed. It is also why it is so difficult to locate a good fitting stopper to replace a lost one.

I'll take a look, and perhaps place a bid :) unless you're listing it as a Buy It Now?
