Another thing my grandmother collected was glass paperweights. Most of them were too flowery for my taste, but I liked this one.

I'm thinking an angle shot might help those that are familiar with paperweights?

This one might help them though.

I think that will be more helpful to those that can help.

    Hopefully anyway.

    I think it would be.............:cat:

Looks like felt or something was glued to the bottom. Might be obscuring a signature or something. Maybe a warm water washing will help remove it, or rubbing alcohol. Interesting weight indeed.

Ow. That's got a nasty annealing fracture.

Thanks. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Hmmm... can you describe in a little more detail what you mean/ what you are seeing? I'm not familiar with what you mean by annealing. Is this fracture something that extends to the edge of the glass that I could feel with a fingernail, for instance?

I think she is talking about this area. But it may be an optical illusion.....I think it's just a reflection of one of the canes making it look like a crack. But I could be wrong.

I thought that too, but wanted to double check. I think it might just be the way the edges of the color inside the glass are lined up, in such a way that it appears to create a line on/in the glass. I can take some more pictures tomorrow.

Was it @janettekay who had the paperweight collection?

I would also like to see more pics! I have had a few of this style (floral/with large encapsulated bubbles). Mine were from West Virginia makers.
Not sure if bottom is unfinished or has residue. Can't tell if has crack or is optical illusion. Maybe more pics will help!

Yup, it's the bit that @Bdigger has highlighted. Looks typical of an internal shear to me.

I see what you are saying. I'll try some more photos. I can't seem to capture any kind of a shear in the glass up close of that area though. It really does seem as though that because the colors in that area are very flat shaped, it creates the illusion of a line.

EDIT: Looking at it yet again, there are some blacks in there that when I look at them sideways, they all but disappear, creating a black line that looks like a fracture. at least that is what it looks like to me.

I cleaned off the bottom of the paperweight btw. It just rubbed off with my finger, what ever it was. There are no marks or signatures on the bottom.
