Featured Glass ? Pendant

So great story: I was in a quirky thrift store and saw this piece. I thought it'd be perfect for my friend's birthday, since she wears lots of these colors.

There was no price so I asked how much it was and the owner said, "That's been paid for already."

"Oh, someone bought it?" I said.

"No, they paid for it and left it for whoever liked it, and hoped that they [me] will 'pay it forward' in the future.'"

Apparently an older man comes in to the shop every once in a while and pays for things for other people as a random act of kindness. As the owner and I talked about him, we deduced that he might be doing it in honor of his late wife.

So I got it for nothing, will give it to my friend, and will look for a way to pay that generosity forward to someone else.

Anyway, what is this piece? Glass?

Thanks yeah I agree. And I also appreciate the owner of the shop who, when I asked about price, could very well have made up a number on the spot.

Is there a texture to the top?

 

The top of the piece is smooth and rounded, exactly as I would expect glass to be.

 

If the top was glass/quartz/sapphire it would look the same.
