Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This just reminded me of the old Seinfeld episode with the "historic" slice of wedding cake that Elaine ate.

Best of luck with it! And nice that it's on the cover of the catalog, too.

Part of the auction contains items from a very well know collection, so they are promoting it heavily !

Look , for all you not auction house savvy , here's the deal.

It's risk vs reward , in equal measure !

The mask has a reserve , under the estimate , & I don't like it but these boys are looking to make a sale so we compromised .
The estimate is on the lower side of the masks market value but as the saying goes..." it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it "
    ( I hate that saying......:sour:..)

The outcome has a number of possibilities.

    1. it gets passed over.....no sale ....& the item is as we say in the business ..
    Burned !

    2. the bidding doesn't meet the reserve .....no sale...& the item is moderately toasted. !

    3. it meets the reserve....sale ..... & I cry in my soup.....but it's a rich broth.

    4. it makes the estimate ....sale....& I get shitfaced and consider it was worth holding the piece for 25 years ......& I get a pat on the back from my Dad who never understood why I spent so much money of a piece of wood .

    5. It's a one of a kind with good provenance by a big name artist & 2 or more guys fight it out for the pride of ownership....... sale above estimate....& I get shitfaced and book into the Chateau Laurier.....sleep it off .....order room service ...go visit the History Museum.....& drive home pleased with myself !

Either outcome 1 or 2 ..& my tail will be so far between my legs that I'll be tripping over it !
I'm telling myself that I've signed up to be prepared to accept #3......but all of you know that letting go the best item you've ever had .....for far less than you know it's worth.....& what you're comfortable with .....is not a win win situation.

4 and or 5 ...would constitute validation for an ego that rests on two pillars.
My understanding of the value of my knowledge in my chosen field, and the choices I've made concerning the quality of the art work that I've selected to offer to the public over the years.

All that said , it's now out of my hands as to which way the wind is going to blow.....which is unsettling at best !

& yes ...I could use a boat load of luck !!

Certainly I didn't mean to imply they were in the same category, Komo.
At this weekend's Seahawk auction a very large Davidson bronze went for $100,000, and prints attracted quite a bit of interest and an unusual bolo signed "to Reg from Bob D" sold for way beyond estimate.
    Good luck!!

Sharks have always been a hard sell....the estimate was $150,000 - $200,000...and that bronze is huge .at 51 inches tall.
It was marked IP 1/1 ....so that must have been the foundry's copy.

I hope mine does better than 2/3 of the low estimate .....!
    Just sayin....

And thanks for the well wishes.......it can't hurt to see his original items break the estimate !!

Nah, don't be nervous, it doesn't help.....and overall, regardless of estimates, which I don't trust much anyhow.....at Seahawk there was lots of interest in anything with the name Davidson attached.
Prices were all over the map; the gigantic Susan Point went for 1/4 estimate; (clearly it and the big Davidson were hurt by the "where the heck can I put it" factor).
Some things went way beyond estimate; Beau Dick items have been doing really well there, and it would appear his star is still rising.
Nobody had any explanation for the prices; least of all me. Some low, some high. I wondered if it might just have been that the auctioneer was really rushing along, he was doing 90 items per hour. Several times it was clear the phone bidders were not able to keep up.
