I found two old Snuff tins at my lock-up.

I think they came from the extreme hoarders house last month.

When opened I found very fine gold powder.

The shades don't show properly under artificial light but I think I have 23k in the large tin and 18k in the smaller one.

One touch and it adheres to my skin.
The tin lids are coated in gold so it will have to be carefully brushed off.

Obviously I can't sell it as is, as I don't know the correct weight nor the karat.

23k gold powder is currently selling at £87 ($120) per gram on the net and is £55 ($76) per gram at today's gold prices.
I estimate there is around 60 grams of gold.

Should I pour both into the melting pot and make a small ingot of pure gold ?
What is the best way of going about it ?

    Hi,
Looks like "bronzing" powder. It comes in various "carats" and colors like Florentine and such. I used to buy it quart size cans and placed into smaller cans for working. I used it a lot in repairing gold leaf on items.

I found some bottles with very similar stuff in them when I cleaned out a car dealership.
I figured it was gold leaf powder, but it didn't mix with water, and I didn't know what else to try. (No, actually, I forgot about it :p:D:jawdrop:).

As a carver and gilder for many years, I have never seen or even heard of "gold powder" or ever found it offered by my gold leaf suppliers, E. Ploton in London, UK.
Gold coloured powder, yes, you can get that but it is usually a brass or copper alloy. When we do gilding we sometimes collect the little left-over bits, known a "strewings" but even these tiny things don't resemble a powder as such.

So - not gold is my call.

I've never had to mess with it. If it's real gold powder melting it down could be interesting. If it's gilding leftovers, generally copper, it's not worth the effort.

Its definitely gold, the weight alone tells you it is.
I have all the items that were in the video Holly showed.
When I get time and get my lock-up cleared I will have a go.
