Hand Crafted Wooden Dragon

    This heavy wood carved Dragon with bulging eyes is 8 inch High & 8 inch wide.It is not in great condition. Any help on it's meaning age or orig a4.jpg a5.jpg a1.jpg a2.jpg a3.jpg a6.jpg a7.jpg in would be very helpful

    Garuda is close but no cigar:playful: and yes, it is Indonesian, probably from Bali.:)
    It has four legs, more like Barong. Barong is a mythical creature, Lord of the forest animals. Barong can take many shapes, but his favourite is the lion. You will have to use your imagination a bit.:D

    Very nice carving, but he has lost some of his wing feathers.:(
    Is the base a container, does it open?
    And could we see more of the body, please? Still not sure it is Barong.

    Thirty+ years ago I worked a bit with a couple who imported from Bali. They would spend several months a year there and then what they bought would start showing up. I don't remember much:( but their house was filled with fab stuff!

    Thanks, Steve, I actually meant more photos of the body of the Barong itself. But it does look like Barong. Is he holding something in his right paw, or is that just the photo?

    It looks like the rounded base is a container, and the animal is on the lid, but we could be wrong.
    This horizontal line looks like the separation between the two, where it opens:
