    Hi folks

One of about 30 pieces I bought at today's boot sale

Think I paid about £3 for it

I'm hoping it's a proper Chinese hand painted willow pattern not a british transferware

Never seen one like this before

Not sure how old, has sticker

    Any thoughts appreciated

Looks early, but I suspect it's an English one - that firing fault to the foot rim is very common on English examples

Nah, not gritty, smooth just slightly raised

If it is english it could be the Caughley Pagoda Pattern Teapot c1750- c1790, and the spout baroque design is identical to another I saw at auction but they did not specify if it was english of chinese. Most of the stuff there was english.

However Caughley is usually a darker blue, your teapot has a lighter cobalt blue and is more similar to Spode in colour. If it is spode then it is transfer printed and you should see a tell tale break in the pattern, like an overlap of the pattern. Causing a double pattern splodge. You will know instantly when you see it. Pattern print was rolled by hand onto the porcelain, so they can overlap.

So it is likely an 18th century teapot, either Chinese Qianlong and or English. I think it look like a chinese qianlong teapot if it is not transfer printed.

I found another tea pot described as chinese with the same lid handle.

    Thanks Francisco, very helpful indeed.

Looking up close, the painting is all very consistent, no overlapping etc

Will look into what you have advised

You did very well. I am quite confident it is Chinese and if it transpires to be Chinese, it is worth at least $150. I am not sure what an english teapot would be worth, but they certainly have a value too.

    English

18th Century English delftware pottery blue and white was painted by hand and some of the plates are from inage are actually quite hard to tell apart from origional chinese. In some cases they were copied exactly.

The plate on the left is the Chinese original. The plate on the right is the Mason's copy! This Ironstone plate in the 'Chinese Ladies with Cranes' pattern dates from c1815.
