Hand painted Satsuma set

Discussion in 'Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain' started by Elizabeth Brushia, Apr 20, 2024.

  1. I have this satsuma set, the only mark I can find the same is one called 1000 flower, but it’s nothing like this. Can anyone identify the year? Other satsuma marks have the signature with the circle above it

These are typical of early 20th century work either late Meiji or early Taisho. The mark on the base says 'Satsuma' in Japanese kanji, there isn't a makers mark or specific date in this case. Also just fyi the mark should be rotated 90 deg clockwise.

  3. I did actually know I should have rotated it.. sorry about that, but I really appreciate all your knowledge. Very helpful
