Hand Woven Hat

    This looks pretty neat! Any idea where it might have originated?

    I would associate the brim and crown style with South America.
    I have also seen American imitations, but they have a top "cap" part that widens on its way down to the brim, whereas the cap (diameter) of yours seems the same, top to bottom. Plus it just looks old and faded, and the imitations are pretty modern. Can't wait for the texture/etc/ brainiacs to have a look.

    It's from Africa. The kind of thing one finds at craft fairs, etc.

    Wow, that's shocking... I had a look at some African hats, and the wide-brim ones... I can't see a difference from the South American ones! I had no idea.

    Twined savannah grass hat from Ghana....

    These show up on ebay as Nootka 1st nations weaving......& you can't tell the seller otherwise because they think they can get $400 to $600 for it !!!
