I have been trying to figure out this plate for years. This is the nearest match I have found. What do you think? Do you think the seller is correct in their dating? Many similar ones are listed as being 18th century. The seller lists theirs as 19th century.

The seller has not identified a maker so I’m not sure how they came to the conclusion on its age..or if they are correct.

The one listed seems to be a slightly darker clay than mine. Maybe the maker changed clay suppliers at some point? Mine is the top photo. The one listed is the bottom photo.

The marks are not an exact match but close. Mine is the top photo. The one listed is the bottom photo.

The coloring and design is very similar. Especially of note is the bird, which I had not found so close a match to up to now. Mine is the photo on top. The listing is the photo on the bottom.

And finally here is the entire plate. Mine is the photo on top. The listing is the photo one the bottom.

All comments welcome! I do this for fun and I’m definitely not an expert. Sort of the opposite, lol! : -)

Color differences are very difficult to assess from online photos. There are so many variables that can be responsible for color shifts.

I see what you mean! Unfortunately not finding much on Ch. Fourmaintraux-Courquin marks online but I plan to visit the MET museum reference library this month. I’ll check the catalog to see what they have on Ch. Fourmaintraux-Courquin.

    Thanks!

Late to the party on this, but it looks mid 19th century to me. Although the pattern is a classic it has been continued through the years, rather like some of the Delft patterns which have been produced for nearly 300 years.

The back of the plate and the foot rim are important indicators, and large clear pictures of these are helpful. Unfortunately most museums and A list auction houses don't usually show the backs and details which is a shame.

To me that looks mid 19th century. It looks too consistent for 18th century and the spurs are well controlled.

the differences may come from the origin of the workforce. France had time and again a strong Italian immigration into ceramicsmaking factories.
