Hi, Anyone know what this item is ? It is very heavy, weighs just over 3 kilos.
It has two rough slots in the hole in the middle.
    Thanks.

So maybe we can get @daveydempsey to delete the other one??

This looks like a real "WHATSIS"!!!!! For one thing, it looks brand new! The 'duck bill' part looks like a wedge, and the donut hole looks like a heavy bolt or chain might go through it.....other than that, I'm LOST!!!! NEXT.......

I thought it might be something maritime related so I sent pictures to my son who is a marine engineer out in the Arctic Circle.

In fact he only landed out there 2 hours ago.

He's not seen anything like it but suggested coupling hooks and pulleys are made of bronze used on gas rigs so as not to cause sparks.

I just re-looked at your image.....5" isn't too big......hmmmm.....what did your brother do for an occupation or hobby? I.e., would that give us any clue?? And sorry for your loss.....

Imagine this - the tab fits into the slot of a slothead screw.
A bar or rod slides through the round opening.
The bar or rod applies leverage to turn the bronze screwdriver head.
It's like a really big, heavy, interchangeable screwdriver bit.

OR - one wears it on a chain around a well-muscled neck dangling down the front of a shirt open to the navel.

I was hoping to find someone who may know what it is rather than receive daft ideas.

Didn't you know that daft ideas sometimes lead to great ideas?

Ya, we'd all like that....but this is the way we work.

Everyone gets a kick at the can, & has the same right as anyone else to voice an opinion , even if it's humorous ...or outside the box.
Sometimes it takes a while for the right member to drop by with insight that zero's in on an item, or leads others to come up with an answer that was overlooked.
It's a process....and not always in a straight like but most often we have fun trying to unravel a mystery....while helping a member to figure out what they have.

We're not a metal fabrication society.....& we don't always know exactly what something unusual presented to us is.....but we try to sleuth it out , all the same, and in the process, have fun while we're at it !!

If you can't dig that, if you're not down with that....then I suggest you look elsewhere.........cuz that's the way we roll !
