Hi, I am hoping to find out any information I can on this set of dinner plates that were passed down to me through several generations. I believe they were designed by Herbert Betteley as they are marked with a BB 470 and H 491. There is a faint stamp that is hard to read, but I think ends in 22. I would love to learn anything I can about these, so any light you can shed is very appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hi, Sally and, welcome! In the future, you'll want to make sure to post your photographs as "Full Image" rather than "Thumbnail" so they're easier or everyone to see. (And not to worry... All new members do the same thing in their first few posts.)

Thank you for fixing it! I could barely figure out how to post a photo at all.

You'll learn. And if it takes some time there is always someone who can help.

This Royal Doulton mark was used c. 1930 onwards. Using family history (which generations passed it on), you may be able to narrow the date.
Source: Geoffrey A. Godden, Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks, revised edition (London: Barrie & Jenins, 1991), p. 213, mark 1334.

THIS website indicates pattern H791 would have been introduced in 1919. Of course, it may have been being produced for many years afterwards and, as already stated, the mark on your plate was in general use from 1930-ish onwards.

THIS Doulton Collectors' Club says artist Herbert Betteley/Bettley signed with the initials HB. And his items appear to be hand-painted ware like this (not mass-produced plate patterns):

However, another source does say he also signed with BB but apparently that was on older pre-1930 Burslem ware.

I find the little dot circle dot mark under your Royal Doulton backstamp curious. I see it on some other pieces from the late 20s/early 30s but can't find any definitive explanation for it. Some internet guesses are: a type of date mark, export mark, or seconds mark. Do all your pieces have it?

From a piece with a clearer mark showing this:
