Hello from Delmarva! | Trading Bitrates for Antiques

Hi everyone,

I’m joining the ranks after a year of falling head-first down the antique rabbit hole. By day, I’m an IT analyst—which pays for my habit—but I spend the rest of my waking hours obsessing over the "history of things."

I’ve officially traded my "casual hobbyist" card for a student ID. I recently finished my Antiquing Diploma with the Centre of Excellence, and I’m currently knee-deep in the Asheford Institute of Antiques program. My end goal is to eventually become a full-fledged dealer and appraiser, though I’m the first to admit I’m still in the "learning to tell my Chippendale from my Hepplewhite" phase of my education.

A bit about my hunt:

• Location: I’m based in the Delmarva (DE/MD/VA) area.
  
  
• The Auction Bug: I’ve become a total regular at local auctions. I’ve reached that dangerous level of familiarity where the auction house staff knows my name and I know exactly which floorboards creak.
  
  
• The Networking Gap: While I’m always researching, I’ve noticed the local antique association scene is a bit quiet around here. It’s hard to find a local "tribe" to nerd out with, which is exactly why I’m popping up here.
  

I’m looking forward to learning from those of you who have been in the trenches for years. I’m a firm believer that every object has a story worth saving, and I’m eager to soak up as much of that history as I can.
