Hi there, I'm Terra. I'm 15 years old, but I've been into antiques since I was about 5 or six. I started out collecting tiny occupied Japan dog figurines because I could buy them for $3. Since then, I've collected an eclectic array of items, including antique books, pocket watches, tea cups or basically anything else that catches my eye. My favorite find so far (while not old enough to be a true antique) is a 1949 wall map of Rome that used to hang in the Latin room in my school.

Welcome, Terra! Believe it or not, I used to collect those tiny Japanese doggies! I was entranced by the expressions on their faces; some were madly adoring, some seemed to say, "And just who do you think YOU are?" Some were sad, some were downright crazy looking, and there were some that had detached heads that spun about on the neck -- I think they were supposed to be beagles. Glad they still have an audience!

 

Hi Terra and welcome to the board. I was about your age when I got bit by the antique bug and I warn you,its a lifelong obsession,but a fun one.

 

Welcome aboard Terra! But watch out, this stuff is addictive. The wall map was a nice find. It may not be all that "old" but maps from different eras are often really interesting.

I started helping in my parents second hand shop when I was 8. By the time I was a teenager, I was also into collecting. My mother loved miniatures, so we also had a lot of those ceramic animals. Great way to get started!
