Featured Help! Any idea where this little thing came from?!

    Here are pictures of mine. White marble? There are some "shiny bits." They are spread out but are visible on all sides.

    As you can see a J has been carved into it (I assume that is the front) but has an unusual way of ending the "fish hook" part of the letter. I realized this morning that the extra piece could very well be a T and that would mean that, instead of this item having been owned by my great grandfather, whose first name was Howard, it probably belonged to his father (my 2 times GGF) whose first name was Thomas. Thomas died in 1892 at about 71 years old. He was born in London, England, emigrated to New York City in 1842, was a pianoforte maker in NYC and died in Brooklyn.

    There is no other embellishment to the book form. Is it odd to be so plain? If it was made in England would that make a difference?

    They all have their own individual charm which is I think part of their attraction. No two are identical, I love my one with fossils in it and yours are wonderful with inscriptions that are so personal or the cross that so clearly identifies it.
