help! dont know what this is, but it looks like satsuma

    Me too. Not my field, so just want to learn to use the term correctly.

    If I can interject on this, my feeling is that "moriage" is coloured clay "slip" and therefore mostly matte in appearance, whereas enamel (which is basically glass) is generally "glassy", unless purposely altered to appear matte.

    Totally agree.
    Moriage is colored clay slip - not shiny.
    Enamel has a shiny appearance.

    This is the older definition and in my view the correct definition. If you look at older price guides, or books on Japanese pottery this is what you will see.

    Like all things related to the internet there are "new" definitions.

    I agree that this is not real Satsuma piece because the detail is quite off and 2 men look like Chinese, not in Japanese trad clothing.

    Agree, moriage is more like cake icing as frequently seen on dragon wear as opposed to the shiny little dots.
    Many on eBay get it wrong :-(
