Help I/D tin type

hello again everyone I have a old tin type photo and was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of military uniform the man was Wearing if it is military I believe it to be a postmortem photo of the man any info would be great thanks. Matt.

It seems silly to me to believe it's postmortem

 

He looks dead to me no expression and his eyes have no life in them compared to the wife and child that are clearly alive. But thanks anyways for the comment terry.

 

From the poor condition of the tintype, and the kind of fact that the man "seems" to be looking up and away, I'm not sure how one could judge that he could be dead. I think it would be pretty hard to make him sit up in that position if he were!!!

 

Seriously, you think Ma & kid said "let's prop dead Pa up on a camp stool and take a family picture"?

 

If post mortem, he (papa) would be in sharper focus in comparison to live subjects.

 

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It doesn’t matter the condition of the man I posted it to find out about the uniform he is wearing thanks again if anyone has any comments on the uniform that would be great.

Well, I went and tried to bring the gent into better focus.....without a whole lot of success......but, just curious......isn't that kind of like a musicians type uniform???? I know.....probably WAAAAY off base, but looks like the scrolling on the Music Man.....ah well......his eyes look a wee bit better anyway!!!
