I believe this is a magazine stand. A seller on etsy (link below) has identified it as part of Ethan Allen's Heirloom Collection. A different site said that the Heirloom Collection was made between 1940s-1970s. The one on etsy has no numbering at all, apparently. It appears that the Ethan Allen company's numbering systems changed several times, and I didn't find anything that had the exact types of numbering as on yours, @Thom .

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4441299719/vintage-ethan-allen-heirloom-maple?ref=buy_box_elp&external=1&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_type=all
