    what makes you think that it's hand carved ? could you show more deatails, please ?

    The base is William and Mary style, but the top not so much. I think the inspiration was a chair like the following. Yours looks like a newer adaptation, made late Victorian or more recent. It looks like the upholstery may be original if so it doesn't look very old. More pics of underneath, closeups of carvings, etc. can more closely pinpoint when it was made.

    The lady I bought it from said it was hand carved and thought it to be mid 19th century. The upholstery was done late 1960’s early 70’s with matching curtains AND wallpaper.

    Interesting chair. I don't quite know what to make of the top wood configuration..... Maybe William and Mary meets Empire revival. I do think this legitimately late 19th century or very early 20th. The mish-mash of styles probably precludes an earlier date.

    I like the chair... and it was reupholstered and put in a room with matching curtains AND wallpaper? Somebody loved it!
