Help identifying

Ok I am now thoroughly confused. Are there two sides to this lady?



I'm trying to figure out where the seal on the body is, where is the gold paint? Shown in post #17

Giving incomplete information can lead to an erroneous id. It is very important to include all the information you have and not mix pictures from one piece with another.

Hopefully someone will be along to help.
I think they are interesting and if I have time tonight I will dig a little more.

Ya...no need to make us crazier than we already are !!!

I still say Ivory...unless you can provide a close up of the clear section to show that it's bone.....
Oh...& they are delightful !

For ivory, look for Shreger lines. Here are a couple of examples.

The curve of your pieces makes them look like they were carved from tusks. I'm wondering if they are walrus.

 

elephants have tusks....

 

But they're more loose in Tuscaloosa.

 

I agree with evelyb30 as to material and I think it is a document seal stamp for wax.

 

That's an idea....seeing as how the heads detach ...

 

Thanks for all the info. After looking at the pieces again with the information you have provided i believe that they are real ivory. I also think they are elephant tusks.
