    This belongs to an old friend, she has no idea of the age or country of origin, it is framed with closed wood back.
    About 30 cm square, heavy, uneven surface with some pits and fire crack.
    It seems to have brown color under the glaze, but not sure...
    I'm sure it is old, and Iznik came to my mind, but I'm in no way a ceramic guru :shy:
    Maybe some of you will have an idea from the colors and motifs (those cherry blossoms are rather asian, but the feathered leaf is puzzling!) 20180118_090059.jpg 20180118_090114.jpg

    It's lovely. Reminds me of some of the more elaborate Victorian wallpapers.

    Persian blue color identifies it as coming from the Middle East.

    Not neccessarily. There's Victorian British tiles with exactly that colouring. It's a bit Morris.

    Thanks AJ! I explored these when Iznik popped out in my mind, but wasn't able to find the EXACT image of the MET tile :)

    I found some more info in my book on ceramics from Islamic lands: This colour combination is called Rhodian ware (due to an early misattribution to Rhodes), the slender leaf design is called the 'Saz' leaf design. Saz means reed, it is also the name of a beautiful Turkish string instrument.
    Eagle eye AJ strikes again.:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

    Kyra, I think your friend's tile is nicer than the one in the Met. Just a little more artistry and elegance.
