Nice, Thanks for those pictures! It does look like stain seeped through into the opening on the left hand side during some kind of work or repair. At first glance I though water damage and then realized all the places it came in would not support that thought.

Thank you for the added pictures and info.

Doesn't look like the sides had shelves.
I was sort of hoping for something in the large drawer that might have held bottles.
I had thought this might have been a bar.

Appears now more for linens, flatware, and maybe the side held candelabras or such.

    Wait for other opinions.

That one hinge is almost rusted out. Something must have gotten in there.

It would be so sad to paint over that gorgeous veneer. You could try selling it and use the money to buy a modern piece if your daughter doesn't like antiques.

It is quite lovely just as it is. Please reconsider painting it.

Unfortunately, this would sell better painted shabby white in our shop :( It would sit forever as-is and probably have to be discounted. I am not advocating painting this. Just truthfully answering the question.

    And so, there that is.
I am not sure why everyone is so against painting here. I have seen some outstanding examples of 1930s-40s waterfall furniture that were painted and look great!
I personally don't get it, it gives pieces a new lease on life, paint is removable, not permanent and most importantly, the piece survives for another day. What's wrong with that?

Those are attractive. But not what most people envision when they hear the word "paint."

picture is pretty drastic of coarse but even a little scratch would bother me and i would be repainting it (or touching it up) all the time lol

Yes, they are PROFESSIONALLY painted, not some hardware store crapola that the homeowner slathers on. It's not an expensive project at all for a piece or 2.
If it's worth doing at all, it's worth doing correctly the first time! just sayin..:cigar:

I would note that the pieces above are selling online today for a few hundred bucks, say $300-700 bucks or so. Which is better, taking a piece that, as Brad says
OR, hire a painter and turn it into a sharp, in fashion desirable piece that SELLS?
