Help! Why is this drawer designed like this?

    Hi, i have a small antique table and it has this bottom drawer that i just have no idea what it was used for. Any idea why its designed like this?

    Perhaps this might help a bit. I would guess the 'pegs' are for holding spools of thread.

    Do you have some spools of thread handy? Try it out & see if there is enough clearance to open & close the drawer. I can envision pins, needles and scissors in the tray part.
