    That's because it's illegal to mark precious metal objects without a adding a registered trademark to the piece.

    Thank you for pointing that out, Hollyblue....I didn't know that, but I wish they had at least provided a way to stamp initials/dates, but maybe they didn't in order to prevent some unscrupulous student from stamping 14K, 18K etc.

    I realized that not everyone on this board may know what F.I.T. stands for. It's a college in New York City that teaches applied arts, Fashion Institute of Technology. My son received his degree in fine jewelry making there in the early 1980s.

    I knew that from watching Project Runway :happy:. Some of the contestants were graduates. What kind of jewelry does your son make?
