    Hi everyone,
The stones test in the jadeite range, it’s only approx 17” in length and unknown metal content. This is considered cannetille, correct? Kind of has a middle eastern vibe and not

    What say ye?
Hope y’all had a great long weekend

Gorgeous, and you're right, Middle East. Either Yemeni or Yemenite.
Yemeni means from Yemen, and Yemenite means Israelis of Yemeni origin.

Yemenites still work in the Yemeni style, but often add modern touches.
To confuse things, Yemenis have also begun to modernise their jewellery, but in slightly different ways.

My guess is that this is Yemeni, so from Yemen. The main metal elements are probably from older pieces, Yemenis recycle a lot. They would have replaced the cabs to match the beads. The original cabs could have been blue glass.
This is filigree. Filigree comes from the French filigrain, meaning thread and grain/granule, which is what you see here.
Cannetille is twisted wire, like a thin tube, that is curled around a metal ball or granule.

In Dutch regional jewellery cannetille is often called 'spinnetjes', little spiders.;) Cannetille does indeed resemble little spiders, so maybe that is a way to remember it. So when you see filigree that looks like little spiders you're looking at cannetille.:playful:
Gilded silver maybe? Yemeni silver is usually .835 or lower.

Ahhh. I thought cannetille was 3D and filigree was not

Dutch cannetille brooch, seller's pic, the swirling wires have since been bent in place and an appropriate dangle attached to the loop:

All those round granule and wire decorations are cannetille. The central part, the 'Zeeland button', is composed of several cannetille elements.

Lozenge or diamond shapes, often seen in filigree.:)
