Can anyone help with information on this artist? I do know it is pretty old and definitely not a amateur BBF410C1-F91B-4BFA-B8AA-0DBAEAB10FF7.jpeg 717D728A-CE7B-4129-B126-7B8DC1BE0E84.jpeg ACBE88C4-0AE8-4E78-8FFA-F23B5B27A9EE.jpeg E9615722-D7EB-43F9-B239-9C86B7988A1A.jpeg C3079CBD-376E-43B1-BDE2-A534EAD39396.jpeg

How old do you think "pretty old" is, David?

I would think that a tad early. I would think 20th century. Is there a reason why you didn't include the frame in your photographs? Frames are helpful for dating.

    The painting was reframed

Alright. I'll ask the next question. When was the painting reframed? Did you see the old frame?

If the label read F.W Devoe and C.T. Raynolds I would agree with 20th C.
I’m guessing the painting was reframed fairly recently and under glass. Assuming someone who isn’t experienced with art didn’t know it was a oil

Perhaps you can estimate a date using the manufacturers label on the back.
They probably use several styles over the years.

Why don't you post a photograph of the painting in the frame?

It’s already out of the frame
I really don’t look at frames at all with art things are changed repair relined. The back of the art and the front are how I do it but that’s just me I guess. Signature is usually last as well

I understand but don't necessarily agree. For instance, penmanship styles change and evolve. The signature can often, at the very least, provide hints as to age. But do you know for sure it was reframed or are you assuming it was reframed?

I’m almost 100 percent sure it was reframed.
I will put it back in later for you

Very nice atmospherics in this work, almost looks like a gouache, but you say it's an oil, eh? The typeface on the label and the work itself suggest 1920's-30's to me. Paintings of Scottish scenes (usually gouaches) were very popular decorator items during the early to mid 20th c.
    Very nice painting.

Also I’m not talking about signature for age. You have to look at quality of work first

I would agree. From everything I see early 1900s. 1920s, 1930s. The label could even be 1940s or 1950s.

Not really, old board could have been used.

But... The quality of the work doesn't provide an indication of age. And an indication of age is helpful in identifying the artist.
