I did not mean they are the same. In general abstract art made of either scribbles, blurry smudgy images, geometric shapes etc.
Can people that do this kind of art draw a giraffe for example?

Therein lays the difference between a draftsman who can reproduce via pencil or paint and an artist that can convey emotion or thought via pencil or paint. Audubon was a great draftsman, but his drawings are cold and exact- there is no emotion in them. Van Gogh was a dreadful draftsman, but put emotion on canvas. Constable on the other hand was a great draftsman as well as an artist - mostly because he was paid to be.

Most abstract expressionists started out doing representational work.

For example, this is an early work by Jackson Pollock......

    Hi,
    I was always told this:
A painter can display the sun as a yellow dot.
An artist can turn a yellow dot into the sun.

A funny greeting card I gave a friend many years ago.

Woman in the kitchen in an apron. Small child sitting on the floor. The pot of spaghetti sauce had apparently boiled over on the stove. Red sauce everywhere, including the floor, walls, woman, and child. The child appeared to be very happy playing in the red mess all over the floor.

Card inside said something like "Jackson Pollock's mother inspired him early on."

I switched frames with that factory painting I had showed earlier. What do you all think?

Thanks Pat. i thought the colors went together more and the carved frame just makes it pop.

Definitely. And I think the style of the frame enhances the painting.

How does the other painting look with the plainer frame?

Stinton was a genius. So were the Barlows at Doulton. It's sometimes forgotten that baked earth decorators were as wonderful at art as those who used canvas.
