So I am back around to this silver box and found two hallmarks on the inside of the box and I've not been able to narrow it down. I thought at first french, but then I am not so sure. There looks to be a tiny letter d to the lower left of the right facing man.

    Thanks for your help!

    Yay!!!
Difficult to discern, but I think they are Polish.

I agree that Polish appears to be the most likely, AJ. In which case the "tiny letter" is probably an A, since there is no D in the list of Assay locations for Poland.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Looks to be a sideways 'V'....to me....unless we're not looking at the same mark.....and that face looks more like a woman to me too....even though fuzzy!!

It is a woman, wearing a headscarf tied behind.

The sharper focus sure does make the letter look different. Let me check back on the other letters used in the list.

So V is a valid letter, but seems strange to me yo be sideways. Not having other examples to check, I don't know what to decide.

A regular V would be for Wroclaw, but this one seems odd. I have never seen a Polish town letter sideways. Maybe someone can find out more?

Thanks to everyone for your help! European marks are always a struggle bus for me. Got to take my tractor down and help the neighbor dig a trench :(
