Hey, I'm not convinced one way or the other. I just put them next to each other so people could see, lol.

In the meantime, I've posted this in a couple of places, nothing definitive, but what seems a strong possibility to me -- based off cap badge, King's Royal Rifle Crew pre-WWI. Black buttons are another pointer to KRRC. Maybe Anglo-Egyptian War in 1882.

The above suggestions provided by some of the most excellent folks over at the RootsChat message board.

I don't know if we're on to something or if I just need some sleep...

[edit: clarification, I don't know the names of the guys in the second pic, don't know if it's Harrington or not]

Who are your guys? They look so much the same. Do you know their names?

Still looking (welcome everyone/anyone else to look!), picture is described as "Officers of 3rd King’s Royal Rifle Corps: Battle of Spion Kop on 24th January 1900 during the Great Boer War" .. found it here https://www.britishbattles.com/great-boer-war/battle-of-spion-kop/

OMG. I do need sleep. I was about to come back and post, "I'm undecided about Harrington, but, after reviewing several more pictures, I really believe that the 3rd battalion should be given serious consideration."

Fortunately, before making a complete fool of myself, I went back and re-read the article @i need help posted: (emphasis mine)

I have no idea if I knew that earlier, but I know it now. :hilarious:

After looking at your group photos, I don’t know what to think! They all start to look similar. We need some fresh eyes on it.

Oh, and the 3rd Battalion had a Rifleman name of "C. Lee" (per The King's Royal Rifle Corps Chronicle, 1907)... possibly worth further research, but I have plans for the morning. Blast it!

@Jivvy im just curious if you’ve contacted NAM ?
The photo on my link was provided by them and apparently it’s from a collection.
Forgive me if you’ve mentioned that already.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I wonder whether the OP would like to do some of the research? Jivvy has mentioned a couple of times that anybody is welcome to do this. Not meaning to ruin anybody's fun, though. ;)

@i need help I have not contacted NAM, but that's a great idea!

@Figtree3 I have been talking to the OP privately and he hasn't mentioned that I've overstepped, but it wouldn't be the first time. :hilarious:

I wasn’t suggesting that YOU should take on doing this, just trying to determine, if it had be done.

Well, I guess my previous post related to my background as an academic librarian. Certain students would be very happy if the librarian would find most or all of the sources for their research papers. (Fortunately, these students are in the minority.) Anyway, I'm accustomed to helping people figure out a research strategy on an extensive project, but then letting them take over after they understand what to do. After all, they are graded partly on the quality of their sources! But things are very different here and I need to remember that! Hope I didn't offend anybody who is having fun with this.

On the other hand, I do like looking for information and have quite a few photo mysteries of my own. Maybe I'll post one here on Antiquers some time soon!

I understood where you’re coming from, @Figtree3. It takes a lot more than that to offend most people. ;) Would love it if you posted some mysteries!
