My mom passed away a few weeks ago and last week my brother, sister & I finally went through her storage unit picking out things we wanted to keep and the rest we are going to sell and split the money.

Going through the unit was sad and at times funny - but almost everything relating to us showed us how much she loved us (she kept our report cards from elementary - high school + every birthday & mother's day card)

This is one of the things we are going to sell - I think I remember it as a kid in the 70's, But I couldn't find any names or markings - it feels like it's hand painted. What do we call it?
Thank you for any info in advance.

I am very sorry for your loss, journey.

    The base is Satsuma, Japanese.

thank you - it is still unreal? I had a feeling ro go see her a week before she passed, but my girlfriend is doing chemo for cancer & wasn't sure if she could handle our 3 dogs so I put it off - and then it was too late.
But I am spending more time with my dad now! (he and my mom divorced in the 60's, but he still flew up for the services which my brother & I (our sister has a different dad) really appreciated)
Thanks again Any Jewelry & judy

Sorry, just looked at all pics of it - same man & woman but it has a dragon instead of a valley(?) view like mine on back side

It'll take a long time to sink in.
I hope your girlfriend will be all right. I wish her a speedy recovery and as little discomfort as possible.
They are handpainted, so there are bound to be small differences. It is the same general type.

My condolences to you and your family.

    As for your lamp.
I think the base if earlier than the 60s. Yours and the lamp you found have a lot more detail in them than the newer Satsuma.
I think the people are supposed to be the immortals.
I've not seen one with a lake on the backside.

Personally, I would have tried for a little more than $100.

Thank you guys. As for my girlfriend she did well on chemo and then they switched to immunotherapy(how it sounds) - but after awhile she was feeling worse and worse: I finally took her to the emergency room and it turns out the immunotherapy messed up her kidney? Liver?- whatever one it is - so that now she is diabetic!! She has give herself a shot 2x a day now!
The only good news is not that she's on insulin she feels a lot better - the night at the emergency room her blood sugar was over 500! (I think she said it should be in 80s?).
PS - they put her back on the chemotherapy; which she was doing good with to begin with

If she remains on insulin, you can private message me. I have some experience with the new advanced c.g.m.s and pumps out there, if she goes that route. (Experience courtesy of the Diabetic I live with )
That goes for anyone else on the Forum, as well.

    Thanks AJ,
It’s a lot easier now though. We actually get constant blood sugar readings and alerts on cell phones.

Good that it is monitored so closely. It is ok as long as it is manageable. My husband has hypoglycaemia, which could swing the other way at some stage. Several people in his family had that, first hypo, than diabetic.
