He looks like a nicely carved wax head, but he's probably more solid than that!! He needs a body, or was part of a puppet??? OK, I'm starting to guess.......but I DO think he's neat!!! Does he FEEL "waxy"????

could it be wax ? there were small puppets, the holes were for fixing the clothes.
from the beard English (cavalery) or Austrian (Kaiser Franz Joseph) ?

Cool thanks, hadn't thought of wax

He doesn't feel waxy at all

    (Apart from his moustache :joyful:)

    Very very hard

It is a beautiful little head, Charlie. Maybe the dad of an antique doll's house family?
Is there a stamp on the bottom?
I think we need our doll ladies @Christmasjoy and @judy .

    Cool thanks Aj

No stamp underneath, just a recessed hole for it to sit on something I think

Do we think it's carved then, or some sort of early plastic ?

We think our doll ladies may be able to tell us more.:pompous: We prefer to stay on the fence for this one.:chicken::hilarious:

@charlie cheswick, yes, there ARE VERY faint numbers on the bottom.....can you gently rub some either flour or cinnamon (whichever might give you better contrast) there??? See what others suggest!! Here is what I've done.....both inverted and not.....

My first thought was wax also, but there would be no question if it was a true wax. The holes would be to sew onto a cloth body as in a doll.

Could it be made of resin resembling a wax head?

Thanks Judy, it's a puzzler. If it's not carved, I would presume it would be some sort of plastic

    Hard to tell :)

Thinking about it, I've seen a few doll heads made of a like material......not resembling a carved head though.

I remember a Russian tea cozy with a head of like substance.

If it's carved scouts I agree

If it's not it's going on my keychain :)

Charlie, here's the best I can do to show you.....I've re-worked the images....for whatever reason, it shows up slightly better on my computer than when I post it, but I've also written what & where I'm seeing.....if you don't see it...it's fine....I just try to point out what I think I see to help!! It's still a neat little head!!!!
