    Hi All,
Value Village was a friend once again, sweet little goblet, hallmarks for 1868 London Thomas Smily. I'm trying to figure out what the initials are on the front and the coat of arms? (not sure if that is correct) on the other side. A bird, maybe a falcon?
On the bottom it has L.T.F 26/5/45, so a gift to someone I think, also 14th Dec 1868.
    any information appreciated
    thanks for looking:)

I found this similar Crest in Fairbairns Vol 2, the feet of the bird in No 1 are distinctive. You can check the plate number 95 in Vol 1 to find the family name I think. I can’t remember how to get there, I did it once when I found BamBam/Capt Caveman on my glass seal but someone here will tell you I’m sure.

Lovely cup. I think the bird is supposed to be a dove.

Dont know if this is relevant...

My copy of Fairbairn's seems to have a little different information. I'm not well versed in using it though. Mine is copyright 1989 pub 1992.

Mine shows the cap plain and also with all sorts of things on top. My favorite might be a fish standing on its head!

Anyway, here is what I've found. You have to look at each name because sometimes the same name from different lineages can have various Crests.

The bird seems to be referred to as swallow or martlet. I don't know if the raised wings on yours make a difference.

It may still be a different family as the wings are upward, but at least Fig. 7 has two "h" names listed.
If I'm correct about the monogram "hrh" the darker "r" would be the family name.

It is a very sweet thing!

I'm wondering if that fanciful lettering is actually "f" in the center as it has those funny little crossbars and the initials on the bottom end in "F".

Not exactly this font but maybe something similar?

Sorry I think it's a wild 'goose' chase. As previously mentioned above the bird looks more like a swallow.
