    hey folks

probably not as good as other ones ive had, but seems to have the same two tone wood as the african one i found, and it was only 50p

bit of damage to the hat. facially it doesnt look african to me, especially with the moustache

has a hole in his hand for something, fishing rod ?

any ideas on origin would be great

I think 'fisherman' is on the right track, from Bali... brimmed hat/moustache

    initial guess: Bali

your carving shows what looks like a 'tree stand' for hunting/fishing... lashed to a pole or trunk. That might be the third clue. Still looking...

    Nice database!

@charlie cheswick if you are handy with a whittling knife, or are so inclined, the pole (with or without the fish) could be easily replicated to complete the figure, and now you know the type of wood to obtain if you wanted to. Of course, I'm guessing 'restoration' is probably more work than the value the figure is worth, except for the fun of it. It's all in the challenge, right?

    Absolutely !

Perhaps even a fish to go on the end

I'd probably have more luck carving a fish, than I've had catching one lately :)
