Hello, I have the oportunity of buy this Italian silverware. I think that it is beautiful. But I'm not sure if the mark Italy 800 is from solid silver, or is related with other meaning.

    Could you help me?
    Thanks. 700.png 7000.png

800 is a lower silver content than Sterling. Sterling is 925. So 800 is silver.
Silver plated is silver applied to a base metal.

The set is typical Italian silverplate, misleadingly marked with an '800', and often low-quality - the neo-Rococo pattern is typical, and Kings pattern is also common, as well as shell motifs, and others (I've even seen that same houndstooth case before). Along with the '800', they may also be marked 'Arg', 'Argentato',, 'EP Zinc', etc., or may not have any indicators that it is plated - modern Italian silver flatware and holloware should bear the proper marks...

Thanks for your answer Cheryl. Is curious that a silverplate was mark as 800.

Very common in Italy - seems little doubt there is intention to deceive...

The case is an indication of quality of contents. The type of thing sold at weekly street markets.

Despite being correctly described as silver plated, I notice that the set on Catawiki sold for $125, which seems a lot to me for silver plate! Maybe people buy them for seemingly expensive wedding presents, and then they are tucked away by the recipients. Doesn't Italy have a Trading Standards department to regulate silver marks?

They're not silver so require no Italian hallmark.
