I have a shoehorn, which I shone a touch through and it had straight striations, which I interpreted as Celluloid. Plan to post it to get confirmation of yea or nay.

@Ownedbybear I’d love a PM if you’re comfortable doing that if you don’t want to post. I have no idea what the material is but I know I’ve never seen horn that looks like that.

 

I'm so used to seeing it highly polished......that I didn't recognize it in a dull mat finish........
This one threw me for a loop !

 

TY. Had no clue but that’s exactly what it looks like without the opalescence. I’ve never seen it treated like the piece posted. I really thought I knew what abalone looked like so I’m so surprised how thrown I was by surface treatment.

 

i think mother nature was trying to make a Damascus shelled critter when she made these guys.....and then covered it up .....



so only the critter itself would know how beautiful it was !! ..

 

I’ve never eaten abalone and know it from Mexican silver LOL!

 

It is getting out of hand around here. So many freely share their time and their knowledge getting absolutely zip in return other than the satisfaction that maybe they helped someone else make a buck or stopped them from making a costly error.

I don’t think it’s too much to expect all to respond in a courteous manner and lay off the condescension and superiority.

If someone feels that they’ve been dissed one way or another they’re totally within their right to not help further.

All need to consider how their posts read prior to posting.
