I have a potential clearance to view in Beverley tomorrow.
The deceased old lady occupant was described as a hoarder.
    I`ll keep my fingers crossed.

So sad to hear about the "destroyed" property. Not fair to you or the lost history. Such a shame.:banghead::banghead:

I bought them. Might as well post them as any other find.

Oh, I thought they came from the house and were in the same catagory as those weapons confiscated...:oops:

The weapons were not confiscated, they were 'removed for safe keeping' and then apparently illegally destroyed. There was no legal basis for confiscation.

Not different ways of saying the same thing at all, confiscation requires statutory authority to deprive a person of goods, and this was not what happened.

In some countries it is said, do not involve the police or your troubles will really start.

I did not think it applied here, but I was naive.

Into someone's pocket, probably. No way of proving it.

I`ve been to see the potential clearance nearby in Beverley.
It was indeed a hoarders home but very clean.
Not much in the way of antiques, although there were several items of pottery that looked interesting packed away and inaccessible for now in the garage.
I`ve made an offer that they pay us to clear the place.
    I await the call

I went to an estate sale last year that was a woman's dream- dolls, linens, clothing, jewelry, glassware, the house was packed. The lady seemed to be a shopalolic, and there were some antiques, not many. She had packed the attic, and the estate sale people said that they just kept finding things. It took them months to set up the sale. She was a hoarder, but kept the hoard stashed....neatly. It was all clean.

There is still some junk to remove from the garden and garage, but the house as such is now completely cleared.

The job was much longer than I allowed for (and still not perfectly finished), but the haul of items was larger than expected so balance was maintained. The local bric a brac dealer who removed all the stuff I did not want and the total rubbish and scrap should do well enough out of it as well, but he really worked hard over the last three days just getting the house cleared.

Tomorrow I will collect the boxes of better stuff I sent back with my friend's vanload, and post a few more pieces as single items for comment, there are quite a few I could do with some advice and comments on.
This morning the first thing to do is reclaim the cat from her boarding house, much to her relief I imagine. What amounts to a large cage must be pretty boring after a large house and garden to occupy.

All the stuff is now in house and shed, and sorting is just about started.

I found a 1584 book, Coopers Dictionary, but one corner looks as if mice have been at it. Still rare but it will knock the value severely. Still, I very nearly left it.
