My goodness! Looks like it's a very good thing that you reorganized last year!

I tidied up when getting this stuff seemed an imminent prospect, I never expected it to take almost a year to be done with. The space is really useful now, though.

Some cool looking stuff. What's the black book with the foliage design on the cover in the last photo?

I think it was Nostradamus who said that if you rise in the morning and find that rats have been gnawing at your clothing in the night, you should desist in your plans for the day.

Are those pictures of the shed reverting to form?

What's the medallion-like thing under the coconut? How about the box with 4152 on the lid, or the other under the stamps? It should be fun browsing.

Love to see a shot of the green bottle sitting behind the mugs in the shot after the tea pots.

The book is a poetry book with Mauchlin 'fernware' covers. The book is really just an excuse for the covers.

The green bottle is in fact my blue Columbia decorators piece.

Here are a few more random things. The shed is getting very cluttered.

    1-P1040331.JPG

This seems to be an authentic 14th C legal document framed up.

    1-P1040333.JPG

Typical 18th C pistol grip silver handled knives and forks. The shape an two tines are quite typical. Next a mystery object. Roman lamp, copy of one?

Snuff box or small powder horn for priming powder. The 'valve' at the base rorates to open the hole. The lid has a cork plug.

    1-P1040342.JPG

    1-P1040343.JPG

    Horn, of course.

    1-P1040344.JPG
Shagreen covered instrument case. Ivory protractor missing, and one instrument.

Still hoping for help with the mystery 'roman' 'lamp'?

    Some more stuff.

    1-P1040340.JPG

Sovereign balance with original box, mid 19th C.

    1-P1040397.JPG

Possibly a Stevens and Williams verre de soie glass vase.

    1-P1040385.JPG

set of six 18th C small pastry knives.

    1-P1040365.JPG

    Early 19th C bottle jack.

    1-P1040369.JPG

French composition snuffbox with gold(ish) 'the holy family' medallion in the lid.

    1-P1040382.JPG

How did this get to Manchester? The lid once had a picture of a lady, now it is very dirty indeed. Heavy image enhancement to see anything.

    1-P1040381.JPG

A big (15 inch) ebony fid.

    1-P1040401.JPG

Replica in hallmarked silver (1975) of a Saxon sundial from Canterbury.

    1-P1040402.JPG

Still sorting out stuff. I did help myself to 'A collector's guide to Antique American Silver' by Schwartz, and 'Silver Marks of the World' by Divis, to keep for reference.

Is it bronze? With all the grind marks, I would think it has to be a reproduction.

Afantiques, have you had a chance to take a close look at the piece of needlework which appears in the last three photos in your Post #127?

    Just curious. ;)

Needlework, no date. Clearly whoever composed the rhyme had no experience of being a child. 1-P1040418.JPG

Sorry I seem to have missed a bit off the left edge.

I brought a bag of fans back into the house with me for more detailed investigation. No great expectations though.

Sampler's pretty plain, and not in great condition. Still, I'd call it 19th c. and someone will want it. Flanaganlane antiques knows quite a bit about fans.

If the fans turn out to be nice, I'd love to see photos of them open.

Af, in one of your photos there's a framed something on the left side, under your table, that looks like a black and white drawing or embroidery. I'm curious what it is?

The sampler appears that say at the bottom that it was done by ___ Robinson Aged 27 -- is that what it says? I thought most of these were done by children, as practice. Shows that I don't know...
