af, I do indeed know that feeling. The tickly nag at the back of the skull that says a thing that isn't in your normal purlieu might be Something. ;)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

She needed a lot more practice in making a capital "Y." :cat:

Home again after checking the last of the job. Thanks for the replies, looks like I won't be making a fortune from the lamp thing, I just thought it was rather odd and dare I say, cute.

If you have paid for everything already you don't have the concern about paying out money for what may be nothing to deter the operation of the antiquer's eye.

Looks like a nice day for taking some pictures outdoors,so I might do the American clocks this morning, and some other stuff.

Getting down to some packets of tiny stuff now.

An ivory and gold toothpick holder.

    1-P1040572.JPG

A fine condition Victorian silver fruit knife with a clear hallmark. Oddly, it EXACTLY fits the toothpick box.

A St Louis World's Fair 1904 souvenir medallion with old sticky stuff on it.
Shame because it is virtually as struck otherwise.

Maybe a bit of Brasso will fix it. :)

Coronation of George IV souvenir, nice condition.

I hear a cry! I am summoned. More later

Silly enough peanut butter is sometimes good for removing sticky residues. Read it somewhere a long time ago, the oils in it. Be discriminating on what you use it on, though. :wacky:

As all good coin collectors know, Acetone is the wtg for sticky stuff on coins without causing damage.

I'll try an acetone soak. I'd not bother if it was a rough example but it looks pretty good.

Here are a few more little metal things, I have finally read the camera instructions and can do better macro pictures.

A Georgian coin weight, the odd denomination is for some commonly traded foreign gold coin.

    1-P1040557.JPG

Souvenir of the Coronation of Queen Anne.

And one for the 1745 rebellion.

    1-P1040562.JPG

    1-P1040563.JPG

    A late 18th C 'Mail Coach' halfpenny,typical token coinage.

And lastly, the weight from a set of 'penny post' scales. I wish I had the rest of the thing, by itself the weight is not that big a deal.

That's why I post them, I feel they may be of more general interest. And I say you can't have enough blokey stuff among the EAPG and obscure American ceramacists.

    More Mantiques, I cry!

Indeed, Af. These things are far more interesting after a long time of *frou frou*.

I am sure mine is bronze. Although the one linked is slightly better than mine the $195 price seems mad.

Just to round this off, here are a couple of pictures of the crew who did all the work.

A rare appearance of myself disguised as a broken down old man in baggy trousers. 1-20150616_124335.jpg
and my partner who showed great patience and fortitude beyond the call of duty, and wants to do it all again.

    1-20150616_124511.jpg

    and our two young helpers.

    1-20150715_144345.jpg

and lastly the bulk removers and clearers, a fine gang of two pensioners and a younger chap.

    1-20150722_184015.jpg

I now remember that was the younger chap's afternoon off for his birthday, so the main clearer, far left had roped in an even older assistant.

    1-20150715_144633.jpg
    Cupboard searching.

    1-20150715_144650.jpg

    The end, empty rooms.

I can only hope the place does not fall down before it is sold, that window lintel has already collapsed.
    1-20150718_092928.jpg

And so ends, for now the saga of the great Clearance. The next stage is selling all the stuff, some of which you have seen over the last few weeks, and that should be another adventure in itself.

I hope this tale has been interesting and amusing and a reminder to all pickers that there are good hoards out there, the only problem is finding them, but everyone should have at least one in a lifetime, even if, like mine, it is just dumb luck.
