Hi Evelyn,

No they were not sweat bees, they were the real thing WASPS with paper nests all over the attic. The attic had been closed up for at least 30 yrs. I guess I was just lucky that they have never had an attack for 50 generations and just wanted to see what they had found. I was 18 yrs old when I had my first reaction to a wasp sting. It was painful and just my thumb swelled up. After two more stings that year I really went into swelling up. After my 4th sting I really did need the ER. I was so swollen and had trouble breathing, more like gulping air. I started carrying epinephrine and a syringe. Once I was stung and had to go to the local Vet since the nearest Dr or hospital was 75 miles away. We were fishing on a lake and somehow I got stung. My uncle took me to the Vet which was closer. The worst was coming home from San Francisco on a plane in February. I got stung and started swelling up. I looked like the Michelin man. Of course I did not have my epipen with me. Thank goodness there was an elderly doctor in First Class with his "bag". The pilot was planning on an emergancy stop in Chicago in 30 minutes. I told him do not bother since I only had 15 mins or less to live. After four shots I started to shrink back to normal. I have not been stung since 1993.

greg
