Note that the Hudson is also known as the 'North River' but almost never called that.

Fishkill is a town in New York State near Newburg. My grandmother was born near there, in another bitty town. Current population is about 2200. It used to be full of apple farms; I don't know what's there now if anything.

Grew up in Newburgh, slightly north, located on the West side of the Hudson.
Can't be sure, but looks like there is an attempt to show Bannerman's Castle, on what we called Bannerman's island, which could probably be seen from Fishkill.

@KingofThings - No family left in Newburgh, but I go back on occasion. Mid Hudson valley will always be beautiful. Newburgh itself has seen much better days.

    Hi,
I went to Newburgh once with a guy who was repairing an old organ in a church. His car died and I gave him a lift. I was living in Brooklyn at the time.
While he was working I explored several antique and junk stores in the area. I found three pieces of coin silver flatware in a junk store. They were 25 cents each. As I getting ready to pay for them I espied a large basket of silver plated flatware. In the basket was a service for 12 that matched the coin silver. I found 82 pieces of the set. Went home with the 85 pieces of the set.
The owner gave me a discount on the 85 pieces. 6 dollars!!!!!! The set was complete 12 place settings missing one salad fork. I will always remember Newburgh with fond memories.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Had not heard anyone say "Newburgh" on the news in forever - until the other day during "storm coverage" it was mentioned that an international flight had to be diverted from JFK to "an Air Force base in Newburgh, New York." :hilarious:

Yup,Stewart was Air Force during 50's-50's. Believe that cadets from nearby West Point trained there around WWII, possibly before the Air Force was a separate branch.
Newburgh was a marvelous river city, settled before the Revolution and just kept growing. Deep water port, too, so even had ship building. Goerge Washington turned down the proposal he become king. Prosperous for several centuries, with domestic architecture to match, but started hitting the skids when manufacturing moved south, probably about 1960. Urban renewal movement of the 60's-70's made short shrift of some of those homes. There's been waves of attempts at preservation/revival.
@gregsglass - wish I'd had the itch to look into the shops back in 70's and 80's.

Stewart is now a regular airport, hoping to vie with Newark.

@KingofThings - New Paltz was one of the spots we went for fun and hiking. Can't recall name of the spot but it had falls, beautiful clean lake; many a bottle of Boone's Farm was consumed.

Wasn't it Boone's Farm that was accused of fermenting using formaldehyde? The 1970s college student's drink of choice.
