Featured I bought these under the misconception that they were egg cups

They are a bit small for the eggs my hens lay.

Well, they are salt and pepper pots, and very pretty at that. They are well made.

I've looked all over them and can nothing that resembles a maker's mark. It was quite dirty and greasy; but after a normal wash I poured boiling water over them and they came up a lot cleaner. I have since used a silver cloth.

Outside is pretty good, although there a still a few black spots that are trapped in small pits. Inside, I haven't had much luck in polishing out the tarnish.

The top diameter is 4.00cm, height 2.80cm, and the wall thickness of the bowl is about 0.8mm. Weight is 24 grams. The feet are three toed and clasping a ball.

Are they silver or silver plated? I don't have any silver acid to test them with. How much does a jewellery normally charge in Europe (France)?

They're very sweet, and indeed salt cellars.
Brian, it looks like the silver on the feet is worn, but maybe it is just a trick of the light. If it is wear, they are plated.

Thanks. I can see what you see; but can't see any base metal, brass or copper peeping through. I rather thought that the foot had worn down below the shine created by the polishing wheel. Is that a feasible thought?

I can't see any sign of base metal on or through the serrations of the rim.

Looks like the base metal is a silver tone metal, which is not unusual.
    No, not really.;)

The open salt group likes to show off their collections. They just had a convention and auction.

Three are at least three groups; which one should I choose.

They look plated to me too. Still, salt cellars are collectible and someone will buy them at a fair price.
