Came with bunch of other stuff, none identified. Been working my way slowly thru it. Many I can either figure out, decide it isn’t worth figuring out, or get others to figure it out. This one has me stumped! It works just like a guillotine but is hand-operated and too small for a human neck. All stainless steel except 4 capscrews, it weighs about 15 lbs. The moving hole in the captive plate with handle is sharp and must serve to cut something off. Is it a fowl guillotine? The Jolly Green Giant’s cigar cutter? There are very tiny numbers stamped in, meaningless to me.
the center hole does indeed look beveled , to act as a guide.....and the crescent shape of the cutting blade seems deliberate , to cut a round object....by holding it while cutting it.... a cable cutter....of sorts...was my 1st thought.....but there doesn't seem to be enough pressure for that , so then something a lot less dense .....like a sausage....??
Looks like it's meant to be bolted to another metal plate to hold it stable.....while you're guillotining whatever!! Obviously the underneath metal plate/table has to have a hole large enough to receive the decapitated object!!!
Good observations so far! One aspect-the large number of threaded holes on the “entrance” side-must mean there was some machine to which this thing was fastened, and very securely so. Some of the posts above were getting at this.
D2, thanks. Closest I could find using your term was this: http://www.directindustry.com/prod/sica-spa/product-77432-1409085.html That’s a factory item, and the ones for field use look a lot different. Still searching.
Although not the like yours these work on the same principle. Pipe cutters for exhausts and brake pipes.
Thanks. Now I think I’ll give my machinist buddies a chance. With any luck one of them will have either worked near one of these, or more likely, was employed making these.
Oooh, looks like Mr. T got it; looks a lot like the one on upper left. I’d still like to know what product this may be connected with, since it is very heavily constructed, more so than those in his ad quoted.
Other forum sez: “Slide Gate/valve for Injection molding machine material hopper. Controls flow of pelletized material into barrel of machine.”
Most of the time it is just a valve, open or shut. The reason the edge of the moving part is sharp and knife-like is so it will close without jamming if any plastic pellets are caught when closing. Or so I’m guessing.
