I found a bolt of solid gold

    I'll add that sometimes curious objects are indeed made of solid gold. I have a nail (looks like a typical 19th c. forged furniture nail). It was made in 1896 for my great great grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. About 1 oz., they were given out to family members at a celebration.
