I have this pottery lamp but I can't decide its origin.

It is large and heavy and for the first time that I've seen it was weighed down with sand. In fact, my first crazy thought was that it was filled with someone's ashes. But it was sand with a few small stones.

To me the applied handles and thick top edge make me think it's Italian. But the artwork on it looks Japanese. I took it apart but there were no marks.

Any ideas? Thanks!
