Okay so I know these aren't diamonds, I'm 100% sure.

    BUT

These are darn nice stones, and something Bronwen said about a fiery flash is confirming that niggling feeling that I should just check to make sure.

It would be a lot of diamonds for silver though, I think I counted 116? Im just talking myself back out of it now :hilarious:

When I turn down the brightness you can see some of the colors come through

There is a bit of wear on the edges of a couple of the stones. Dead giveaway for crystal I suppose...

    I just gotta check!

    I assume so.

I get the flash in lamp light too! Just hard to photograph. You can see it a bit in the darkened photo, but uploading it here has lessened the quality.

I'd doubt diamonds strongly. CZ is possible. What does the clasp look like? THe links are soldered, so it's at least a decent quality piece.

The clasp isn't much of one, I think it may have broken at some point and a simple ring replaced it, hence no marks.
You can see it at the top of this picture.

Definitely no help. I think it's high quality costume.

It does test for sterling, but agreed that this is CZ. Just didn't want to let it go without checking in case!

Diamond chips pretty easily, so wear & tear not an indicator.

Sort of 'diamonds by the yard' on a belcher chain. A bit clunky for the way diamonds tend to be set.

Looks too old to me to be CZ. And CZ has more flash than diamonds do.

Oh that's promising. Yes quite right on the diamonds by the yard haha. There's two stones to a setting, each pointed at the end and facing away from each other.

Is it possible to date this then? I thought there wasn't enough to go on to try.

Commercial double sided bezels, sloppy construction of chain with excess solder on the links and connections to bezels.

I eventually succumbed and bought a gem tester. I wouldn’t buy the same model again but fortunately she likes diamonds (who doesn’t!) so is pretty reliable at picking those out for me although she didn’t get her nickname of Mary (contrary) for nothing as she is incredibly temperamental. It’s a good investment if you are handling lots of jewellery :)

I have thought about that, I looked them up but I don't know how expensive you have to go to get a reliable one.

I think so! That is if my mother doesn't get ahead of the crowd. :hilarious: She's not into jewelry but loves this so I'm quite happy to have her have it! I had it listed for a little while and had interest, but took it down to do more research on the age. Bronwen seemed to suggest it could be dated, however roughly. The more you look at it the more quality stands out, its such a nice thing. 2e well spent!

Have a look at the Presidium ones with the analogue dial. Avoid the handheld which mine is. If (when) mine breaks that’s what I am likely to replace it with.
