The foot/base/stand to something - missing the important part(s)? What size is it?

 

They made fireside companion sets, could it be the base of one of them
where the main stem went into the hole?

 

Does the top portion unscrew? is the inside of the hole threaded?

 

Not threaded inside, no. It moves, but won't unscrew.

Not an inkwell, can you look inside ?
We use oil cans which are like that too, with a paintbrush for oiling on lathe or threading.

 

There's no sign of any oil or residue, no way of filling the thing. Given what Peerless made, I think davey got it!
