ID Help Please signed Mid Century French Naive Oil Painting any ideas?

I tried driving on the left hand side, but the other drivers seemed to object rather strongly.

You may be thinking of the UK and equating it with Europe.

To my eye, undoubtedly French. While we use the word "cafe" in the U.S., we don't write it with its proper accent. And, to the best of my knowledge, there weren't any horses used for transportation in post-World War II America as car ownership was wide-spread. Suspect that wasn't the case in France (and know it wasn't in Spain as, until the 1960s, the country had more donkeys than automobiles.)

What about the proper accent in hotel?

Because I only know what Google translate tells me, I didn't mention it earlier, but since we're on the topic...

I also think it looks French, but I may be unduly influenced by the artist's not-completely-deciphered surname.

Good point re "Hôtel." But re accents, suspect usage a bit arbitrary. (If you do an internet search for French hotel and cafe signage, you'll see what I mean.) And may be the same rule as in Spanish... Capital letters don't take accents.

A. M. Gai...ieux something? Gailieux? Gairieux? Those chimneys say Paris to me. If it weren't the little man walking by the trees, I'd think the cobbled area was a bridge and that was the Seine on the left. And what is the white thing with four posts in the middle of the street? According to the internet, KUB is an advertising agency in Bordeaux, France. It's also an older brand of bouillion from France .

 

Finally, normal French chimneys. Just when I was starting to think they'd replaced them all with giant boxes during my absence. Thank you.

 

Lots of shutters on the windows.... I always associate that with France/Europe. Also, the standardized car shape.
