Recently was gifted two antique chairs from a family member and my wife and I were wondering if anyone could identify the make and age. From family store iced they could have been produced anywhere between 1940 to 1970. They short accent chairs with a 16” tall seat without the cushions. Would love and appreciate any help in identifying these cool little chairs!

Hello, @Briannj, and welcome! I've taken the liberty of reposting your photographs as Full Image rather than Thumbnail so they're easier for everyone to see. You'll want to remember to do that in the future. (And not to worry. All new members do the same thing in their first posts.) An estimated date of "1940 to 1970" would make your chairs vintage rather than antique (which is, by definition, 100+ years old.) To my eye, they appear to be from the end of that period. Let me summon for you @verybrad, one of our furniture experts, who can provide more information.

Not our favorite color! Definitely a candidate for reupholstering.

The color is very much of the 1960s to 1970s period. Perhaps fabric not to everyone's taste but in excellent condition and a good quality upholstery job. Would be expensive to redo. And it does pick up one of the colors in your rug.

Another vote for 1970s. Some neoclassical influence with those fluted legs. I am wondering if these weren't already reupholstered at some point. Those oversized seat cushions look odd and were possibly added for more comfort. Do they come off?

thanks for the input! I’m being told by family that the chairs were from the 40s (unconfirmed) and upholstered at a later date (judging by the color, the 70s). The cushions do come off and are far too big and my wife and I wonder if her grandmother attempted to compensate for the chairs low seating by making larger cushions. It’s something we want to fix for sure.

Agree re reupholstery. That doesn't look like a factory job. You might be happier with them if you removed the extra cushions.
